Racer Alert: Crandon International Raceway To Open For 2020 Season Testing

CRANDON, Wisconsin (May 1st, 2020) — With the end of a long winter in sight — not to mention the snowless dirt of legendary Crandon International Raceway — track officials today confirmed that testing at off-road racing’s “Big House” will commence on Monday, May 11th.

Much of that process will remain as has been in year’s past, but today’s restrictive environment due to the Covid-19 virus is also placing an increased emphasis on the health and safety of drivers, crews and track workers.

Crandon International Raceway is working with the new Championship Off-Road (COR) series and the Ultra4 Racing management teams in preparations for the 2020 Forest County Potawatomi Crandon Brush Run scheduled for June 19 – 21. We will all enjoy the sounds of Pro 2 and Pro 4 trucks, Pro Lite trucks and Pro UTVs, as well as all of ULTRA4 various classes coming together in the Wisconsin Northwoods, along with the COR Sportsman categories as the kick-off to a summer of racing.

For those teams interested in participating in Crandon’s pre-season testing, the 2020 procedures are as follows:

  • Testing to open Monday, May 11th
  • Testing available to all Pro and Sportsman teams
  • Testing days available via reservation on a first-come basis
  • Testing days are Monday through Friday only (8:00am – 4:00pm)
  • The track will be closed for testing on Friday, June 5th until race weekend
  • A total of three teams per test day can share the track
  • Only two vehicles per team can test
  • There is a maximum of eight members per team
  • All teams must be separated by a minimum of 100 feet in the pits
  • All team members must be separated in the grandstands etc.
  • Teams must enforce social distancing and personal hygiene practices as much as possible at all times
  • The use of face masks is highly recommended
  • All teams must keep the physically compromised or sick crew members at home. No exceptions.
  • No spectators or on-track media members allowed at anytime
  • All food, snacks and drinks to be provided by the individual teams
  • Cost per test day is $1,500 (due upon arrival).

Testing reservations can be made by contacting Crandon Office Manager Tina Kulaf via email (trackoffice@crandonoffroad.com) or by phone at (715) 478-2222. Other information and aid can also be provided during test days by contacting Crandon International Raceway’s Cliff Flannery at (715) 889-0997.

“This has been an interesting and challenging time for everyone in the country, not to mention the motorsports and entertainment industries,” explained Flannery. “That said, it’s time to get this 2020 season underway. Crandon is will be proud to open our golden gates for drivers and their teams in a safe way and respectful manner.”

ABOUT CRANDON INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY:

Every athletic form of competition has its iconic “holy grail” location; magic places that organically merge time, place and history in locations often imitated — but certainly not duplicated. For off-road racing, that unlikely theater of speed is found deep within Wisconsin’s Northwoods at a place better known as the “Big House.” Located just 100 miles northwest of Green Bay and just outside of the tiny hamlet of Crandon (population: 1,386), for 51 years Crandon International Raceway has provided three generations of fans with dirt throwing, high-intensity action and history-making performances. Crandon’s purpose-built, 400-acre facility is the finest on earth and has long hosted the largest crowds in short-course off-road racing history. Featuring more than 2,200 grass camping sites, fans enjoy two big weekends of racing each year including June’s Brush Run event and Labor Day weekend’s Crandon International World Championship Off-Road Races. Both events feature Championship Off Road (COR) Series Pro and Sportsman divisions, as well as ULTRA4 series rock racing action.
